Dispute Resolution and Restorative Justice for Youth

Dispute Resolution and Restorative Justice for Youth

This professional development is designed to prepare CDRC Staff and Community Partners for youth-involved cases. Developed in cooperation between the New York State Office of Court Administration and experienced practitioner Mark W. Leuthauser, it has helped professionals statewide to change the face of their agencies' services for youth and their families. This workshop also has the potential to transform the way that agencies and organizations connected to Juvenile Justice and Family Treatment view their options when working on service planning for youth.

Participants will learn:

  • What brings youth to Dispute Resolution and Restorative Practices, who is involved in those cases, and what kinds of presenting issues we can expect to see.
  • Who the youth involved in Dispute Resolution and Restorative Practices are, how they are different and similar compared to the population in general, and some background on childhood and adolescent development.
  • Information on both Explicit Bias and Implicit Bias, including its impact on youth, and how to identify & manage it at the table.
  • Applications for this information in engaging and serving youth; especially what adaptations and modifications we can make to our services and practices.

There is no charge for Empowered Pathways Community Partners (volunteers) or guests from invited Partner Agencies.* Since space is limited for this training, priority will be given to Empowered Pathways participants.

Note that this is a two-day training. Registering for Day One registers the participant for both days.

Lunch and refreshments will be provided on both days. If you have any special nutritional needs, please contract This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. after registering.
